Cichlid Description: A good fish to keep the Tret as it is commonly known as is an african cichlid that is a bit less agressive than most cichlids and is an ideal candidate to keep with other fish...so long as they are larger than its considerably sized mouth. Trets are fairly popular in the hobby due to their similarity to Frontosa. However, this fish remains at a much smaller size than that one.

Tank Mate Compatibility: Other african cichlids from lake Tanganyika.
Breeding & Spawning: A mixed bag here. Trets will breed prolifically creating hundreds of fry each year. On the other hand getting the fish to breed can be a difficult process, especially if one starts with more mature fish. This fish definitely fits into the category of "it's hard to get them to breed and even harder to get them to stop." The key to getting the fish to breed is getting a group of them when they are small. They will pick out mates as they grow and generally will not need much peruasion to breed. The adults will likley use a slate, clay pot, or other smooth section of a cave to lay their eggs. The young will hatch in 2-3 days and will be protected by the parents for several weeks. During this period the Tret is notably much more aggressive towards other fish in the tank and care should be taken to ensure that tankmates are not killed.

Cichlid Sex: Females tend to be less vibrant than males with bigger heads and smaller bodies.

Q: I just completed my order, what's next?
A: Before shipment, we quarantine all fish for at least 24-48 hours. During this period, we closely monitor the fish to make sure they are healthy. We also do not feed them during this time in order to 'clean out' their digestive system and limit their ability to soil the water.  This helps reduce the amount of waste in the bag and will keep the water clean.

Q: When can I expect my order to be ship?
