Q: I just completed my order, what's next?
A: Before shipment, we quarantine all fish for at least 24-48 hours. During this period, we closely monitor the fish to make sure they are healthy. We also do not feed them during this time in order to 'clean out' their digestive system and limit their ability to soil the water.  This helps reduce the amount of waste in the bag and will keep the water clean.

Q: How do you pack my order?
A: We take serious precautions of packaging our fish. We pack all orders in insulated boxes, with aquarium water, we add Fritz methylene blue, and pure oxygen. Heat packs or cool packs are added when needed at no additional cost.

Q: What do I need to do to prepare to receive my new fish? What type of tank preparations do I have to do for the fish that I've ordered?

A: A good rule of thumb is to always research the fish you want to buy. This is to ensure that you have the proper environment for your fish to live in. That also means having a healthy, cycled tank for them live and thrive.

My 2nd rule of thumb is to always have a spare tank set up, so you can acclimate your fish to your water before adding them into a main tank. No matter where you order your fish, you should always quarantine to ensure the fish you receive are healthy and free of parasite diseases.

Q: I just received my order; how do I acclimate?
A: Steps to acclimation:

  1. Turn off your tank light.
  2. Float bags for 10-15 minutes so the temperature can stabilize. This is the acclimation process. If the bag is completely deflated for any reason then the fish need air so skip this step.
  3. After 10-15 minutes of acclimating, take the bags out of the tank (one at a time) and cut the top of and dump the fish into the net leaving the water in the bucket.
  4. Quickly lift the net up and dump the fish into the quarantine tank or your main tank.

Q: I just received my fish and they don't look like the pictures on the website. Why?
A: Most of our pictures are taken with adult fish who are showing their maximum color and size potential. Any fish that was just shipped will be stressed. Allow a day or two (or occasionally more) for the fish to acclimate to their new environment - their color will return. This stress can also affect a fish's appetite. They may not eat for the first day or two. Be careful to not over feed during this period, as uneaten food will rot and diminish the water quality.

Q: Some or all of my fish arrived dead - what do I do?
A: We offer a Live Arrival Guarantee service for four hours after door delivery. In the event that a fish arrives dead in the shipping bag, you must take clear digital pictures of the fish in an unopened bag and email it to vegasvalleycichlids@gmail.com within four hours of receiving your package. Live Arrival Guarantee is voided after the bags have been opened.

VegasValleyCichlids.com will also refund (Not Store Credit) on any DOA'S that involve carrier mishandling, which includes delays (Less than 48 hours), damaged boxes or water temperature extremes. DOA's must be reported the day of arrival and be accompanied by an emailed photo to ensure refund.
