The Sciaenochromis fryeri is a popular, brilliant blue Haplochromis from Lake Malawi, native to the waters around Maleri Island. Males of this species develop a brilliant "electric" blue color which covers their face, body and down to the tail fin. They have red color on the anal and pelvic fins, and also feature a blaze which runs along the top of their head, dorsal fin, and tail fin. Males can get to be about 7" in length and females are usually slightly smaller.
Compatibility:
Sciaenochromis fryeri are mildly aggressive African cichlids. They are best kept with other Haplochromis of a similar size and temperament. Males will show increased levels of aggression towards other males and when breeding, so it is best to have only one male even when not breeding these fish. Some compatible cichlid species are other Haps like the Venustus, the Intermedius and the Blue Dolphin cichlid.
Tank Requirements and Feeding:
Sciaenochromis fryeri are native to the hard alkaline waters of Lake Malawi in Africa. Ideal water conditions for a home aquarium should mimic the conditions in the natural habitat for these fish to display their best colors. The water temperature should be between 78 - 82°F with a pH between 7.8 - 8.6. Additives like Cichlid Lake Salt and Malawi/Victoria Buffer will condition the aquarium water for African cichlids. The aquarium substrate should be sand or fine gravel, and there should be several rocks and caves for these fish to claim territories and seek protection.
Sciaenochromis fryeri are carnivores and should be fed a diet which includes a variety of foods that contain a good amount of protein.

Q: I just completed my order, what's next?
A: Before shipment, we quarantine all fish for at least 24-48 hours. During this period, we closely monitor the fish to make sure they are healthy. We also do not feed them during this time in order to 'clean out' their digestive system and limit their ability to soil the water. This helps reduce the amount of waste in the bag and will keep the water clean.
Q: When can I expect my order to be ship?
